About

My Metal Value is a free calculator site that helps you figure out what your gold and silver are actually worth at current market prices.

No sign-ups, no sales pitch, no dealer trying to lowball you before you know what you have.

Who runs this

My Metal Value is an independent site, not affiliated with any precious metals dealer, refiner, pawn shop, or buyer. The calculators give you the market value of your metal — nothing more, nothing less. We don't buy gold, we don't sell gold, and we don't make money based on what you do with the numbers.

What's on the site

The gold calculator works as both a gold price calculator for spot value by weight and a scrap gold calculator covering 10k, 12k, 14k, 18k, 22k, and 24k.

The silver calculator works as a silver price calculator for spot value by weight and a scrap silver calculator covering sterling silver (.925), .900, and .999 fine silver.

The silver coin calculator handles six common pre-1965 US issues — the junk silver calculator most people are looking for when valuing dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars.

How it works

Every calculator uses the same formula refiners and dealers use:

Weight × Purity × Spot Price = Melt Value

Spot prices are pulled live from MetalpriceAPI and refreshed regularly. The result is what your metal is worth on the open market right now. Actual buyer offers are typically lower:

  • Pawn shops: 50–70% of melt value
  • Online buyers: 75–90% of melt value
  • Refineries: 85–95% of melt value

What this site isn't

This is an informational tool, not an appraisal or financial advice. The calculators don't account for collector premiums, gemstones, designer markups, or local market conditions. For significant transactions, get a professional appraisal.
